The Vineyard is perhaps the most important feature of this property. There are approximately 14 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Grapes with 11’ rows and 7’ spacing. The Vineyard is South Facing and slopes upward from the paved County Road. The Vineyard trellising features a quadrilateral cordon system allowing easy access and light to the grape clusters. Two drip emitters surround each vine and in 2004 the irrigation was completely replaced and upgraded with an acid protection system that cleans the lines and keeps the emitters functioning properly. A portion of the Vineyard has a frost protection system that helps prevent damage from late Spring Frost. A propane driven Wind Machine located near the center of the Vineyard also helps reduce the potential damage of a late frost after bud break. Approximately one acre of young Zinfandel Vines were planted where space was available. These young vines are just coming into production. These few hundred vines could produce some “world class” Zinfandel given the location, climate and soil type.
The Soil in this Vineyard is among the finest in San Luis Obispo County for growing Premium Quality Wine Grapes. “Linne-Colado” # 152 is the Limestone rich Calcareous Sandstone Shale Clay Loam that is highly sought after by local Vintners and Wine Grape Growers. It’s been said that "Every Great Wine in the World came from a Vineyard with it’s Roots in Limestone".
